Dr. Snyder in Scully Square

Greetings and Welcome to Indiana Tech!

July and August are traditionally busy months for those of us who serve in the world of higher education. Here at Tech, as we get ready to welcome students back to campus we have the added responsibility of wrapping up our summer construction projects, but the transformation will be complete by the first day of classes.

We have reached total occupancy. When fall semester begins, there won’t be one empty bed in Warrior Row, our newest housing project. In addition, the new athletic facility is nearly finished and will provide spacious accommodations to the cross country, track, soccer, lacrosse, tennis, golf, and women’s basketball teams. The Warrior Athletic Center also will offer two very important amenities, a concession stand and public restrooms. Our new administration building, the Wilfred Uytengsu Sr. Center, is 100% complete. Human resources and Institutional Advancement moved into the offices on the first floor, where we have a great new alumni welcome center. The finance and marketing departments occupy the second level, while the top floor is home to the vice president of finance and administration, the vice president of the College of Professional Studies, and the president. Still, our transformation wouldn’t be complete without the added benefit of becoming a tobacco-free campus. Now, our students receive academic excellence in the healthiest, safest environment we can offer.

To complement the smoke-free environment and promote a healthier lifestyle, Indiana Tech’s Fort Wayne campus now features walking trails. Beginning in September, each trail will be marked with a signpost so we can choose the distance we’d like to travel.

Dr. Dennis Gayle, vice president of academic affairs, joined Indiana Tech last June. With his broad knowledge and exceptional leadership experience, we anticipate an exciting and productive academic year. I’m also very excited to announce that Indiana Tech recently opened an office in New Albany, Indiana. The College of Professional Studies is now available to adult students in the Louisville metro/Southern Indiana area, offering practical degrees to mid-career professionals who want to move up in life and become more successful.

As part of Homecoming Weekend, on Saturday evening, September 18, 2010 we will celebrate Indiana Tech’s 80th anniversary: “80 years, Infinite Impact.” The evening will begin with the formal dedication of the Wilfred Uytengsu Sr. Center. Wilfred Uytengsu (BSCHE 1951) passed away this past April. He was well-known for his philanthropic work throughout the world, and he was a great friend to this university. Without his generosity, the administration building renovation project wouldn’t have been possible. After the dedication, the anniversary celebration moves on to Schaefer Center and culminates with a gala party.

A spirit of significance and success is evident on our campus…come join us and experience your transformation.

Dr. Arthur E. Snyder,
President
