Get to know Coach Bokhart

David Bokhart was named Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Indiana Tech in July 2011. During his first two seasons with the Warriors, the team has posted a record of 20-11-6, including a 9-3-4 mark in Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Play. In 2012, the Warriors went 10-6-3, tying for third in the 11-team WHAC standings. Senior forward Aultain Gaye earned first team all-league honors, while junior goalkeeper Reece Richardson and sophomore defender Padraic Ormsby collected honorable mention recognition. Gaye and Richardson also earned NSCAA All-Region honors. The Warriors were one of the top defensive units in the WHAC, allowing just 0.94 goals per game while posting seven shutouts.

In 2011, Tech finished 10-5-3 (3-1-2 WHAC) and were ranked among the top programs in the NAIA in modified RPI. Tech saw five student-athletes earn places on the All-WHAC teams, include first team performers Elliott Everson, a midfielder, and defender Mark Baptist, who also earned WHAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year, All-Region, and NAIA All-America honors. Warriors earned WHAC Player-of-the-Week accolades on six different occasions in 2011, with sophomore goalkeeper Reece Richardson leading the way, earning three league Player-of-the-Week awards.

In the community, Bokhart has helped the program establish solid service connections with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana and various local soccer organizations. Team members and coaches have also volunteered along with other Tech student-athletes in the Fort4Fitness, Blessings in a Backpack, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes programs.

Prior to arriving at Tech, Bokhart was the head coach at Saint Joseph’s College since November 2006. At Saint Joseph’s, he guided the Pumas to a 17-15-3 record between 2009 and 2010 following a successful rebuilding effort in 2007 and 2008. Bokhart also helped lead a dedicated team in the classroom, with 43 players earning Academic All-Great Lakes Valley (GLVC) recognition during his time with Saint Joseph’s. He also coached three NSCAA All-Region performers and the 2007 GLVC Freshman-of-the-Year. His SJC teams were consistently ranked in the NSCAA Midwest Region Top 10. The Pumas also earned the 2009 GLVC Sportsmanship Award for Men’s Soccer.

Before his tenure at Saint Joseph’s, Bokhart was an assistant men’s soccer coach at the University of Saint Francis between 2003 and 2006. Bokhart also served as Communication Manager for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in Mission, Kansas, which followed a year as a media relations assistant with the University of Kansas athletic department.

Active in several national associations, he currently serves as the chair of the WHAC Men’s Soccer Committee and is National Chair of the NSCAA NAIA All-America program. He holds an NSCAA Premier Coaching Diploma. Bokhart is the State Technical Director for the NSCAA’s Coaching Education program and was a clinician at the 2013 NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis. He currently serves Ft. Wayne United FC as Technical Director of Coaching Education and U13 Boys Academy coach. His summer college camp experience includes Eastern Illinois University, University of Evansville, University of Notre Dame, and Valparaiso University, among others. He has also been involved with Fort Wayne Futsal, Inner City Soccer, and the Fort Wayne Adult Soccer Association.

Bokhart, a Fort Wayne native, earned a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Purdue University in 2000, and received his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Saint Francis in December 2006. Bokhart was a four-year member and two-year captain of the Boilermaker men’s soccer club team, which qualified for three NIRSA National Championships during his career. He was a four-year varsity letter winner at Bishop Luers High School from 1992-95.

Bokhart and his wife, Heather, have four children: Alex (19), Paxton (14), Jaxon (13), and Xavery, born December 12, 2012.

Everson joined the Indiana Tech men’s soccer coaching staff on August 1, 2012, after completing a decorated four-year career with the Warriors. The Horsmonden, England, native finished his career with 23 goals and 21 assists in 74 career matches. A three-time All-WHAC honoree (2009, 2010, 2011), he was the Warriors’ Offensive MVP the past two seasons as well.

In 2012, Everson helped develop the Warriors into one of the stingiest teams in the WHAC, while overseeing the individual technical development of the student-athletes.

Everson holds coaching badges from the English FA and is involved in all aspects of the technical and tactical direction of the team. He will head the Warrior Soccer Academy Centre of Excellence program, which will kick off in January 2013. A 2012 Business Administration graduate, he is entering the second year of study toward an MBA at Tech.

Everson resides in Fort Wayne.

Josh Verhulst

Verhulst enters his fourth year on the Warrior staff, his third with current head coach David Bokhart. He is responsible for the programs goalkeeper training and assists with team training and match day duties. He works as a goalkeeper trainer with the Ft. Wayne United FC.

Verhulst completed a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2010 and earned an MBA in 2012, both at Indiana Tech. He was a two-year starter for the Warriors, guiding the 2009 team to the NAIA National Championships with his outstanding performances in goal. He earned All-WHAC recognition twice and ranks amongst the top goalkeepers in program history.

A Grand Rapids, Mich., native, Verhulst is married to the former Robbie Clark and resides in Fort Wayne.

Gerald Dogan

Dogan is a Cincinnati, Ohio, product and a 2012 graduate of Indiana Tech with a degree in Business Administration. Dogan is a four-year member of the Warrior Soccer program, making his first team debut in the 3-1 win at Concordia last October.

Dogan oversees a portion of Tech’s strength and conditioning program and serves as a coach for the Warrior Reserves. Dogan resides in Fort Wayne.

Jonathan Lee

Well-known in the Fort Wayne soccer community, Lee competed at Wayne High School and crosstown rival University Saint Francis. He has been a facility manager, trainer, and youth soccer coach for many years and is an active participant in local amateur leagues.

Lee continues to direct the Warrior Reserves program in addition to serving as a first-team assistant.

Lee resides in Ossian, Ind., with his wife Jen, and two daughters, Grace and Autumn.

Zach Lamb

Lamb is a native of Grass Lake, Michigan, and will complete a Business Management degree in December. He was a four-year member of the team, an active part of the University community and a dedicated contributor to the Warrior program.

Lamb begins his second year assisting with training and administrative duties for the Reserves in 2013. He resides in Fort Wayne.

Bryce Collier

Collier joins the coaching staff after a successful two-year career with the Warriors, which followed two years at NJCAA member Crowder College (Mo.). He is a mechanical engineering major, scheduled to graduate in December, 2013.

Collier, a Springfield, Mo., native, scored five goals and dished four assists in 34 games as a Warrior. A versatile performer, he played as a forward, midfielder, and defender at Tech. He finished his Crowder career as the program’s all-time leading goal-scorer, playing for successful coach Brad Smith.

He will be involved in all areas of the program, focusing particularly on match fitness and functional training activities. He is active in the soccer community as a USSF referee and a trainer with Fort Wayne United FC.
