Dr. Snyder and students in Library

Greetings and Welcome to Indiana Tech!

This is that magical time of year in Indiana when Mother Nature treats us to her legendary outdoor pageant – the gradual reappearance of the vernal equinox. Sure, it’s cold now, but just wait…springtime at Indiana Tech promises to be extraordinary this year, and not just because of the warm temperatures and daffodils.

“Green” renovation efforts will be nearing completion on our 150-year-old Administration Building. In addition to becoming a more energy-efficient campus, we are rescuing a historic building, increasing the learning opportunities for our students, and creating a stately showpiece for the community at large. Springtime on our campus also will be distinguished by the appearance of two new construction projects. Because of the steady increase in total enrollment, our Board of Trustees has approved plans for a new athletic facility and additional student housing. The 18,500-square-foot athletic facility will provide increased space and amenities for Tech’s growing athletic programs, and the row house-style housing venture on Washington Boulevard is just the first phase of a plan to accommodate continued growth. Both projects will be completed and ready for students in time for the fall 2010 semester.

The dynamics of growth and expansion are expressed through many facets at Tech – i.e., degree programs, building development, sports programs, and healthy living. A Master of Science in Police Administration just launched this semester. Men’s and women’s lacrosse will debut in this month, and bowling will start up later next fall. In the interest of a safe and clean learning and working environment, Indiana Tech will become a tobacco-free campus on July 1.

As springtime draws near, my thoughts naturally turn to Commencement. This year, it is my genuine pleasure to welcome Lou Holtz as the keynote speaker at our ceremony on May 15, 2010. The former University of Notre Dame football coach is a highly sought-after speaker and an excellent role model for our graduates. No matter what field of endeavor they pursue, we encourage our students to take active leadership roles. Holtz is held in high esteem as a motivating force, someone who appreciates hard work and enjoys overcoming challenges. He still holds the record for the longest winning streak in Notre Dame history.

Leadership mentoring and academic excellence are long-standing traditions at Indiana Tech, 80 years to be exact. I hope you’ll join us in commemorating this occasion at our anniversary gala on September 18. Watch for more information about this event on our Web site and in upcoming issues of Trends

A new spirit of significance and success is evident on our campus…put a spring in your step and come join us.

Sincerely,

Dr. Arthur E. Snyder,
President
