Our design system is a library of building blocks that build out our website and digital products.
Our entire design system consists of our branding, typography, heading and paragraph styles, colors, photography styles and graphics, links, buttons, form fields, dialogs, tables, sliders and multimedia players.
The combination of these elements create our dynamic component blocks. Our library reguarly goes through detailed treatment in terms of visuals, behavior, usage, and anatomy.
01. Brand
Brand Narrative
The role of our narrative is to lay the foundation for writing in a distinct voice, as well as to inspire the messages we communicate going forward. No matter who or what we’re writing about, our voice should stay true to the spirit of our brand narrative and our brand personality.
Tech is the practical application of knowledge. It’s transforming everything we learn into everything we’re capable of doing. For centuries it has enhanced our minds, enabled us to see farther than ever before, and empowered us to live better, more fruitful lives.
Tech is not some cottage industry, nor is it some modern invention. It’s the entire economy. And it’s both our history and our future.
But tech goes by many names.
Sometimes it’s called poetry, or accounting, or baseball.
When you get down to it, tech is everything.
And from the ship that will someday transport people to mars to everyday items we often overlook — like the pop-top lid or the screw off bottle cap (both invented by an alum by the way) — everything is tech.
So while some see a pitcher with a rocket for an arm, we see an athlete who’s also a programmer aiming for the stars. While coworkers may see a working mom, we see a motivated mother who’s working toward her masters.
Every day at Indiana Tech, we help people pull that distant dream into broad daylight where they can see it, try it, and grasp it for themselves.
Voice and Tone
If the positioning says what distinguishes us from other institutions, the next step is how to talk about ourselves. The verbal guidelines, including the brand narrative and brand voice, provide a cohesive direction for how campus communicators should tell our story to the world.

Writing Tips
Be bold, not overpowering.
Be proud, not arrogant.
Be friendly, not fawning.
Be flexible, not pandering.
Be determined, not status-seeking.
Be spirited, not fanatical.
Keep it simple. True experts, it is said, can explain their subject to a 1st grader. Even though we’re writing about higher education, not to mention some of the most complex academic programs and research topics in the world, the same logic still applies. Keep it simple.
Be concise. Our audiences tend to lose patience rapidly. Not because people are unintelligent, but because they’re constantly distracted by the endless barrage of media in our daily lives. Keep that in mind when writing and get to the point.
Tell them “Why”. All that media mentioned earlier? IT is in direct competition with pretty much all of it. When it comes to telling our story and getting our message across, never lose sight of the real benefits that an IT education provides — to our immediate audience, our community, our region, and our world. Make sure your writing always ties back to why IT matters.
Logos
The Indiana Tech logo represents us at the very highest level. It acts as our signature and stamp of quality. It is, and should always be, the most consistent component in our communications.
Use only the provided files of the original mark. Under no circumstances should the logo be redrawn, re-proportioned or modified in any manner. Elements of the logo should not be separated or repositioned. Do not use drop shadows, bevels, 3-D effects, animation, embosses, glows or outlines.
Beyond our logo, color is the most recognizable aspect of our brand identity. These colors represent our forward-looking, modern personality without losing sight of our heritage. Using color appropriately is one of the easiest ways to make sure our materials reflect a cohesive IT brand.
WCAG 2 level AA requires a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text, and a contrast ratio of at least 3:1 for graphics and user interface components (such as form input borders).
Use webaim when using accent colors to ensure accessibility.

Typography
What we say and how we say it becomes our voice. Typography becomes our handwriting. And just like an individual's handwriting, our typography is unique to us. Our typefaces were chosen to provide flexibility to address difference situations and audiences through various communications.
Headings are one of the most important elements in web typography. Headings invite visitors to invest attention into content on a page. Since users tend to scan as they scroll through a page, maintaining proper hierarchy is essential.
