Fort Wayne, Ind.—Indiana Tech has selected Dr. Daniel J. Stoker for the newly created position of vice president for student affairs. He will join the university on January 6, 2014. As vice president for student affairs, he will oversee athletics, student life, residence life, and all other areas of student affairs.

“I’m looking forward to working with the team to enhance and build upon what already exists and developing a vibrant campus life,” Stoker said. “My family and I are excited about joining the Indiana Tech and Fort Wayne communities.”

Stoker has worked for more than 18 years in student affairs on two college campuses: Pittsburg State University in Kansas and the University of Indianapolis. He is currently the executive director for student services at UIndy.

“Adding this position, particularly with the experience and skills Dan Stoker will bring to it, helps us ensure that we are meeting the needs of our students in a well-rounded way,” President Arthur E. Snyder said. “Academics are the core of any college, but there are many factors beyond the classroom that impact a student’s lifelong success.”

In addition to coordinating orientation, student activities, and assessment at UIndy, Stoker also has taught “The Ethical Leader” course in the organizational leadership major for the School for Adult Learning program the past three years, as well as teaching a first-year transition class on three campuses over 18 years.

“I strongly believe in the role that student affairs can have in not only enhancing the student experience on the campus, but also preparing students for leadership and civic engagement after college,” Stoker said. “We not only want responsible, involved students, but also strong, ethical professionals who are prepared to act and serve their industry and community when they graduate.”

Stoker has served on the executive board for the Association of Fraternity Advisors, the planning committee for the Indiana Student Affairs Association, and is a member of NASPA and ACPA.

Originally from upstate New York, Stoker has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from SUNY Potsdam, and a master’s in college student personnel and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership both from Indiana State University.
