STEM Teach Q & A
In the sixth round of funding, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) has approved the investment of $2.7 million in the STEM Teach initiative to ensure the future availability of educators in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math. This program brings together the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL) to increase the number and quality of teachers in key subject areas. Learn more about the program and how to apply for funding.
Courses that are eligible for funding are listed in the STEM Teach 2023-2025 catalog. You can apply for funding and register for classes through the STEM Teach website. STEM Teach will inform Indiana Tech when your application is approved, and then you must complete an application for admission to Indiana Tech.
Eligibility requirements for funding are set by STEM Teach, while academic requirements are set by the university. Additional information can be found on the STEM Teach Application page, as well as the Indiana Tech Academic Catalog.
You can drop classes by contacting your admissions representative or the program liaison. Withdrawals should be requested within the first week of class to avoid any fees. Learn more about academic policies at Indiana Tech.
Indiana Tech is obligated to post invoices to student accounts regardless of the funding source. If you are a STEM Teach-approved student, Indiana Tech will submit an invoice to STEM Teach at the end of each of your class sessions for the cost of tuition. Once STEM Teach pays that invoice, your Indiana Tech student account will be updated to reflect the payment received.
Please keep in mind that student accounts may accrue fees for unreturned textbooks. In order to keep costs low for students, many Indiana Tech classes utilize digital textbooks, but when a digital textbook is not available a physical textbook will be loaned to you. These should be returned to the university at the end of your class session. If they are not returned, you will incur fees for the cost of replacing the textbook. To request a replacement return shipping label for the book, please contact the program liaison.
Indiana Tech has been approved to provide all courses that correspond to the Master of Science Psychology and Counseling Psychology Graduate Certificate programs. STEM Teach funds one class per session. At times, multiple classes may be available in the same STEM Teach session because each semester encompasses multiple Indiana Tech sessions. Only one course per session will be funded and the second course may be paid for directly by the student.
Yes. You will submit your college transcripts as part of the application process. Your admissions counselor can have a pre-evaluation completed and confirm which courses are eligible for transfer credit. Your degree audit can help you map out your path to a master’s degree.
STEM Teach Indiana pays for all tuition and books for Indiana k-12 teachers who have applied and been approved for funding as long as the classes are in the STEM Teach catalog.
The only out-of-pocket expenses that students will be responsible for are graduation fees for those who complete a certificate or full masters program. For graduation fee rates and to petition to graduate, see the graduation page on the Indiana Tech website.
Students will be responsible for any unreturned books. Any charges for unreturned books will be removed when the book is received to the university book room.
